Scarpa Proton GT-X Alpine Runners
Scarpa are well known as one of the best trail running shoes available, and recently we had the chance to test run a pair of the new Proton GT-X Alpine Runners. As an amateur trail runner, I have discovered that shoe choice can make a big difference when running rugged trails, and to be able to try out a shoe like the Proton GT-X Alpine Runners was an opportunity I didn’t want to miss.
These shoes have been test run on hard and soft sand, grass, concrete, bitumen, and rugged trail through the Gold Coast Hinterland. Through mud and flowing creeks, along some very rough track surfaces with exposed roots and rocks, steep grades and steps, these shoes certainly copped a lot of hard surfaces, and I need to say how impressed I am with the amount of support they give across the different terrains. The best part for me, was that they didn’t need any time to break them in, I went for a 10 minute walk, and they were100% ready for my feet.
The Proton GT-X has a full Gore-Tex® lining which provides breathability but also keeps your feet dry. At a mere 354g in weight, it barely feels like you’re wearing shoes at all, which as far as I am concerned is certainly a benefit when you are running trails. The secret to their comfort is their 10mm drop dual-density EVA midsole that provides a plush cushioning, with a heel cage for stability and support. The Proton GT-X is a shoe that has evolved greatly and compared to the previous models, they look great, feel great and have proven to be is a versatile, stable and structured shoe that is capable of providing support across any terrain. These shoes are by far one of the best I’ve ever run in, and from here on out, Scarpa is my shoe.
Honestly, their own words actually say it all – “Tough enough for any trail – no matter if you’re running or hiking”.
